All courses start with a three‐day kick‐off workshop as an introduction to the qualification program. For many reasons this event has proven to be a good way to start:

  • Participants and EMA representatives get to know each other which makes for a good basis in a successful cooperation
  • Initiating communication among all involved
  • Breaking the ice
  • Trust building via exchange of experience cooperation
  • Enhancing motivation among Trainees
  • Presentation of infrastructure and handling
  • Individual scheduling of virtual classroom sessions

Twice a week participants meet in virtual class rooms (VC) via Adobe Connect, to work or train on individual modules. Via chat they have the opportunity for exchange among each other or with the lecturer. Recordings of all VC sessions help the trainees to repeat sessions any number of times in order to reflect or deepen their knowledge.

About every three months the trainee programmes feature presence workshops aiming at:

  • Clarifying questions and reflections
  • Working on new input
  • Presenting work prepared by the trainees
  • Exchanging knowledge and its applications in team work
  • Promoting and intensifying social contacts
  • Assessing knowledge status via tests (intermediate tests)

The final exam takes place during the last month of training.

Conducting workshops every two or three months while intensively supervising the trainees via e-learning in the meantime proved to be the perfect idea. The idea of alternating presence workshops and virtual classroom sessions became the well tested foundation of the EMA training concept.

The EMA concept of blended learning offers many advantages:

  • cost efficiency for all involved
  • job-related extra-occupational basic and continuing training
  • few absences from work because of few presence workshops
  • independent of place and time
  • self directed study and study pace
  • individual study methods
  • flexibility and sustainability
